Cancer survival rates improving according to AIHW The latest data on cancer in Australia from Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) show that cancer survival has improved over time. - Between 1982 and 2017 the mortality rates fell from 209 to 161 per 100,000
- Incidence rate increased from 383 to 504 per 100,00 during the same period.
- In 2017 the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia will be breast cancer in females, followed by colorectal cancer and prostate cancer.

How is our innovation, science and research system performing? Innovation and Science Australia has released the following performance review on (Innovation, Science & Research) ISR in 2016. Here are the key findings: - Knowledge creation - Australia is above average
- Knowledge transfer - needs to be improved
- Knowledge application - Australia’s knowledge application does not currently match its strength in knowledge creation
- Outcome - Australia’s economic performance has been strong compared to other nations and Australia has performed well on a number of well-known indices of social outcomes, however there has been a slowdown in productivity growth.
