APRA releases quarterly Private Health Insurance data The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) today released its quarterly private health insurance publications for the December 2017 quarter. The publications provide industry aggregate summaries of key financial and membership statistics for the private health insurance industry.
Premium revenue up 4.2% Total fund benefits up 3.9% Net profit after tax up 7% Total assets up 5.9% APRA data shows the percentage of Australians with hospital cover fell 0.2 percentage points in the December quarter to 45.6 per cent - the lowest in seven years.
Vendor Credentialing policy update The vendor credentialing policy was initiated by MTAA and became a Standards Australia project in 2015. It addresses the need for a unified set of requirements for vendor representatives (including medical sales representatives of MedTech companies) that require access to healthcare facilities in the course of their business by avoiding duplicative credentialing to various requirements such as those of Ramsay Healthcare or Healthscope. The draft standard went through the public comment phase which closed in December 2017. Recently, the committee reviewed the 36 comments received and addressed all of them – some were accepted, some were rejected in line with Standards Australia rules for standards development. We anticipate that the standard will be published in March this year.
